How To Find Metal Manufacturers In Vietnam // Metal, Wire, CNC, And Stainless Steel In Vietnam

Vietnam ranked 11th globally in crude steel output in 2024, producing approximately 22 million tons, a 14% increase year-over-year, according to the Vietnam Steel Association. For international buyers sourcing metal components, fabrication, or finished goods, Vietnam offers a mature supplier base across sheet metal, CNC machining, die casting, stamped metals, stainless steel, and wire products, with pricing that remains competitive against China, Thailand, and India.

I have personally visited metal factories across Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and our team at Cosmo Sourcing has managed dozens of metal projects in Vietnam since 2014. These have included stamped-metal brackets, wire products, finished-metal furniture, industrial shelving, outdoor park benches, and bollards. We maintain an active network of vetted metal suppliers and can typically turn around 2 to 6 qualified quotes within days.

This guide covers how to find and qualify metal manufacturers in Vietnam, profiles reliable suppliers across each major subcategory, and addresses the tariff and quality issues that matter most to buyers right now.

Vietnam's Metal Industry at a Glance

Vietnam's steel and metal sector has scaled fast. The numbers that matter for buyers:

  • Crude steel production: ~22 million tons in 2024, up from 19.2 million in 2023 (Vietnam Steel Association)

  • Finished steel production: 29.44 million tons in 2024, up 6.1% year-over-year

  • Global ranking: 11th in the world, up from 18th in 2017

The major domestic producers, Hoa Phat Group (8.7 million tons of crude steel in 2024), Hoa Sen Group, VNSTEEL, Pomina Steel, and Nam Kim Steel, primarily serve the domestic construction market. For international buyers sourcing custom fabricated metal products, the real opportunity is in Vietnam's hundreds of small to mid-sized fabrication shops that specialize in export work.

Where Metal Manufacturing Happens in Vietnam

Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau) is where most of the export-oriented metal fabrication happens, and where I spend the bulk of my factory visit time. Binh Duong and Dong Nai are especially dense with metalworking shops doing CNC, stamping, welding, and finishing. Manufacturers in this region tend to have better English, more experience with international buyers, and established export logistics through Saigon ports.

Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong) leans toward heavy metal components, precision engineering, and automotive/electronics supply chain work. Many Japanese and Korean-invested factories operate here, and Hai Phong port handles the heavier, bulkier shipments well.

Central Vietnam has large-scale steel production (Hoa Phat's Dung Quat complex) but is not a practical sourcing region for custom fabricated metal products.

What Metal Products Can Be Sourced in Vietnam

Vietnam's metal fabrication sector covers carbon steel, stainless steel (304, 316), aluminum, mild steel, brass, copper, zinc alloy, and specialty alloys. Process capabilities include CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, bending, punching), progressive and hydraulic die stamping, aluminum and zinc die casting, welding, wire forming, powder coating, electroplating, hot-dip galvanizing, anodizing, and heat treatment.

In terms of finished products, we have sourced metal furniture, shelving and racking, piping and fittings, fasteners, automotive components, wire and cable, metal enclosures, outdoor fixtures, and structural steel. For a broader look at how Vietnam compares to other metal fabrication countries, see our country comparison guide.

US Tariffs on Vietnamese Metal Products

Tariff policy is volatile right now, so here is where things stand as of early 2026:

Section 232 (steel and aluminum): The US currently imposes a 50% tariff on steel and aluminum imports from all countries, with no exemptions. This rate was increased from 25% in June 2025, and the scope was expanded in August 2025 to cover 400+ derivative products containing steel or aluminum. This is the primary tariff that affects metal sourcing from Vietnam.

Reciprocal tariffs: Vietnamese goods currently face a 20% reciprocal tariff (reduced from 46% after negotiations). Steel and aluminum products are exempt from this because Section 232 already covers them. On February 20, 2026, the US Supreme Court ruled that IEEPA-based tariffs are not legally authorized, which may impact the reciprocal tariff framework in the future. This situation is evolving.

For non-US markets: Vietnam's free trade agreements (CPTPP, EVFTA, ASEAN agreements) offer significant tariff advantages, making it an especially attractive sourcing base for buyers selling into the EU, Australia, Japan, and other CPTPP member countries.

Buyers should work with a customs broker to determine the exact duty structure for their product's HTS code. The distinction between "steel product" and "finished good containing steel" can dramatically affect tariff treatment.

How to Find and Vet Metal Suppliers in Vietnam

Many of the best metal factories in Vietnam have weak or nonexistent online presences. You will not find them on Alibaba. Here is what actually works:

Start with a detailed spec sheet. I cannot overstate this. A clear product specification sheet with material grade, dimensions, tolerances, finish, quantity, and certification requirements will get you serious responses. Vague inquiries get ignored or attract the wrong factories.

Use Vietnam-specific sourcing channels. The Vietnam Steel Association, the VCCI business registry, and Vietnam-focused sourcing platforms are better starting points than global B2B marketplaces for metal.

Visit the factory floor. I have walked into metal shops in Vietnam that looked great on their website and turned out to be running 20-year-old equipment in a corrugated tin building. I have also visited modest-looking operations that had top-tier CNC centers and proper QC labs. For metal products, there is no substitute for a physical visit. We offer guided sourcing trips if you want to accelerate this.

Start with samples, not production orders. Request samples in your target material, finish, and tolerance range before committing to anything. This is standard practice, and any factory that resists providing samples is a red flag.

Expect a communication gap with domestic factories. Foreign-owned operations (Danish, Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese) generally communicate more quickly and clearly with Western buyers. Vietnamese-owned factories may be slower to respond and less precise in English, but some of them do excellent work. Budget more time for relationship building and spec clarification. For more on the differences, see our guide on sourcing in Vietnam vs. China.
