How to Find Bamboo Suppliers and Manufacturers in Vietnam & Top Factories List

Vietnam is one of the world's top four exporters of bamboo products, with roughly $800 million in annual exports of bamboo, rattan, and sedge. The country has over 1.5 million hectares of bamboo forest, more than 1,000 craft villages, and a deep tradition of bamboo craftsmanship. For businesses looking to source bamboo goods, Vietnam offers competitive pricing, a wide product range, and manufacturing capabilities that span handmade artisan pieces to large-scale factory production.

I've visited dozens of bamboo workshops and factories across Vietnam over the years, from small craft villages near Hanoi to larger production facilities in the south. Below is what I've learned about finding the right bamboo supplier, what products are available, and how to approach the sourcing process.

What Bamboo Products Are Made in Vietnam

Vietnam's bamboo manufacturers produce a broad range of products. The most commonly sourced categories include:

  • Kitchenware and tableware -- cutting boards, utensils, bowls, trays, serving platters, and chopsticks. This is one of the highest-volume bamboo export categories from Vietnam.

  • Home decor -- vases, picture frames, wall hangings, lampshades, pendant lights, and decorative screens. For more on sourcing decor from Vietnam, see our guide to home decor and home goods suppliers.

  • Furniture -- chairs, tables, bed frames, shelving, and storage units. Bamboo furniture is distinct from wood furniture manufacturing in Vietnam because it requires specialized processing techniques.

  • Eco-friendly disposables -- bamboo straws, plates, cutlery, and toothbrushes. This segment has grown significantly as businesses look for plastic alternatives.

  • Bathroom accessories -- soap dishes, toothbrush holders, shower mats, and bathroom organizer sets. These are popular with hospitality brands and Amazon FBA sellers.

  • Basketry and storage -- traditional woven baskets in various shapes and sizes, often combined with other natural fibers like seagrass or rattan.

  • Flooring and construction materials -- bamboo flooring, paneling, and ceiling tiles for eco-conscious construction projects.

  • Bamboo textiles -- fiber for clothing, towels, and bedding, though this is a more specialized segment.

  • Packaging -- sustainable packaging solutions for food, cosmetics, and consumer goods.

The bamboo handicraft industry differs from standard wood manufacturing. Most bamboo producers make smaller-scale items in custom shapes and designs, and production is often order-driven rather than stock-based. This means lead times can be longer than you'd expect for what appears to be a simple product.

Where Bamboo Production Is Concentrated

Bamboo manufacturing in Vietnam is spread across several regions, each with different strengths.

Northern Vietnam and Hanoi Area

The north is the heartland of traditional bamboo craftsmanship. Hanoi and its surrounding provinces have the highest concentration of bamboo craft villages. This region specializes in handmade products: woven baskets, lacquered bamboo items, decorative pieces, and traditional handicrafts. If you're sourcing artisan-quality bamboo goods with hand-finished details, northern suppliers are typically your best bet. The proximity to natural bamboo forests in provinces like Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa also gives northern manufacturers easier access to raw materials.

Ho Chi Minh City and Southern Provinces

The south, particularly Ho Chi Minh City and provinces like Binh Duong and Dong Nai, is where you'll find more industrialized bamboo processing. These facilities tend to handle higher volumes and have better logistics infrastructure, including proximity to major shipping ports. Southern manufacturers are stronger in categories like bamboo kitchenware, flooring, and eco-friendly disposables, where scale matters.

Central Vietnam

Some bamboo production exists in central provinces, often blending bamboo with other natural materials. This region is less prominent for bamboo specifically, but can be a source of mixed-material products combining bamboo with rattan, seagrass, or wood.

How to Find and Vet Bamboo Suppliers

Finding a bamboo factory in Vietnam isn't the hard part. Vetting them properly is. Here's how I approach it:

Start with Trade Shows and Industry Associations

The Vietnam International Furniture & Home Accessories Expo (VIFA) and Lifestyle Vietnam are the two biggest trade shows where bamboo manufacturers exhibit. Attending in person lets you see product quality, meet factory owners, and compare multiple suppliers in a few days. HAWA (the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City) also maintains a directory of manufacturers, including bamboo producers.

Use Sourcing Platforms Carefully

Alibaba and Global Sources list Vietnamese bamboo suppliers, but the quality of listings varies enormously. Many "manufacturers" on these platforms are actually trading companies that add a markup without adding value. Always verify whether a supplier actually owns their production facility before committing to samples.

Verify Factory Capabilities in Person

For bamboo products specifically, I always recommend visiting the factory or having someone visit on your behalf. Bamboo quality varies significantly depending on the species used, the treatment of the raw material (drying, anti-mold processing, carbonization), and the skill of the workers. Photos and video calls don't fully capture this. You want to see the raw bamboo storage, the production floor, the finishing area, and the quality control process.

Check Certifications and Compliance

If you're selling into the EU or US market, make sure your supplier can provide the relevant certifications. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is increasingly important for bamboo products. Over 410,000 hectares of Vietnam's forests are FSC-certified, and more than 730 businesses hold FSC Chain of Custody certification. For food-contact bamboo products (kitchenware, straws, cutlery), you'll also need to confirm compliance with FDA or EU food safety regulations.

Order Samples Before Committing

With bamboo, it's especially important. Bamboo products can look identical in photos but feel completely different in hand. The weight, finish, moisture content, and structural integrity all vary. Order samples from at least two or three suppliers before placing a production order.

Bamboo Manufacturers and Suppliers in Vietnam

The bamboo supply base in Vietnam includes hundreds of producers. These are some of the more established names:

Oceans Republic

Based in Hanoi, near the northern bamboo forests, Oceans Republic is one of the largest manufacturers of bamboo products in Vietnam. They specialize in customized bamboo kitchenware, tableware, and hotel amenity products. They offer OEM and ODM services and have SGS certification for their products. Their focus is primarily on B2B export customers.

BambooVision

A German-invested company operating in Vietnam with a catalog of over 400 bamboo products. BambooVision handles design, manufacturing, and supply, and offers drop-shipping services. They work with bamboo household items, kitchenware, bathroom accessories, and office materials. Their German ownership means they operate with European quality standards and IP protection policies.

Bamboo Mamboo

Located in Vung Tau, Bamboo Mamboo is a supplier focused on eco-friendly bamboo products, including drinking straws and custom-designed items. They source raw materials from nearby farming communities and emphasize sustainable sourcing and fair trade relationships with local bamboo farmers.

Pefso

Founded in 2009, Pefso is a handicraft manufacturer working with bamboo, rattan, and seagrass. They've built a client base across nearly 20 countries. Pefso is known for strong quality control processes and specializes in decorative and storage products with an artisan finish.

Bamboo Master

An American-owned company based in Vietnam, founded by a former furniture manufacturer from New York. Bamboo Master focuses on high-quality bamboo products with strict quality control standards. They accept custom orders and have experience exporting to the US market.

Eco Bamboo Vietnam

A smaller manufacturer focused on green products and environmentally friendly bamboo items. Their products are primarily handcrafted by artisans, making them a good fit for buyers looking for handmade, eco-conscious goods rather than mass-produced items.

This is not an exhaustive list, and we regularly identify new bamboo factories through our on-the-ground work in Vietnam. The right supplier for your project depends on your product type, order volume, quality requirements, and target market.

What to Expect on Pricing and MOQs

Bamboo product pricing in Vietnam varies widely depending on the complexity of the item, the level of handwork involved, and the order size. As a general guide:

  • Simple items like bamboo straws or basic utensils often have MOQs starting around 1,000 to 5,000 pieces.

  • Handcrafted items like woven baskets, decorative pieces, or custom furniture typically require MOQs of 200 to 500 units and longer lead times.

  • Pricing is generally competitive compared to other Southeast Asian bamboo exporters, though China still undercuts on high-volume commodity items due to government subsidies and massive scale.

One thing to watch for: bamboo raw material costs have been rising in Vietnam. Domestic demand consumes a large share of Vietnam's bamboo supply, and the production area (roughly 85,000 hectares of plantation bamboo, versus 1.5 million hectares total, most of which is protected forest) is limited relative to demand.
